About IQ :

William Stern coined the abbreviation “IQ” for the German term “Intelligenzquotient”, which he proposed in a 1912 book for a scoring technique for intelligence tests at the University of Breslau.

In the past, IQ was a score that came from dividing a person’s mental age score, which was based on an intelligence test, by the person’s chronological age, which was based on years and months. The resulting fraction was multiplied by 100 to get the IQ score.

For modern IQ tests, the raw score is converted into a normal distribution with a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15. This means that the mean is 100 and the standard deviation is 15.

This means that about two-thirds of the population will score between IQ 85 and IQ 115, with about 5% each above 130 and below 70.
